Written In Air is currently accepting pitches for three BBC Radio 3 strands:
This strand is mainly for leading writers on arts, history, philosophy, science, religion and beyond, present scripted late night musical and intellectual insight; reflection and thought-provoking storytelling. But also takes interview series and the occasional group of creative features.
A space for music documentaries (primarily classical music), including biographies of musicians but also imaginative, unconventional and unexpected works. Stories on other genres of music, the arts, science and history are welcome, but should explore the way those subjects relate to music, or are seen through music’s perspective.
'Between the Ears is a place that welcomes producers keen to showcase the unique adventures in music, sound and distinctive storytelling that audio features can create. Programmes in this slot should stop listeners dead in their tracks, leaving them glued to the art of radio. '
The commissioning briefs for each of these are linked above. You should have a look through them and familiarise yourself with the opportunity before submitting.
Our company is committed to working with veteran audio producers, new audio makers and freelance journalists from other mediums who may not have audio experience (though we will pair you with a producer).
